The Toyota Highlander series is first produced in 2000 by one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, Toyota. it is classed as a mid-size crossover SUV. The Highlander is available in three trim packages namely the Base model, the Sport model and the Limited model. The first generation of this model was produced between 2000 and 2007 and was introduced in the New York Auto Show. The second generation, which is the current one, was introduced in 2007. In 2010, Toyota made some upgrades to the Highlander and Highlander Hybrid. Basically, the general design is similar to the previous edition but there are some changes to the design of the front grille and headlights. 2012 Toyota Highlander Features
Design: The styling elements and the dimensions of the 2012 Toyota Highlander will be the same as the 2011 model. The Highlander’s body is shorter than most five-seat midsize crossover SUVs thus it is easier to maneuver. The new Highlander will be available in three trim levels: Base, SE (to replace the now defunct Sport model) and Limited, and all models will come with stunning alloy wheels.
Engine performance: The new Highlander will be available with three engine options. The 2.7L four-cylinder engine generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The 3.5L V6 engine generates 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, and will be available with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the Highlander Hybrid will combine a gas V6 engine with an electric motor. The gas-only V6 Highlander will come with a five-speed automatic transmission, while the four-cylinder Highlander will use a six-speed automatic transmission. All 2012 Highlander models will feature antiskid technology and antilock brakes.
Features: All 2012 Toyota Highlander models can accommodate up to seven passengers and it features a 10.3 cubic feet cargo behind the rear seats. The new Highlander will also offer luxurious interior features such as heated seats, a power liftgate, and three-zone air conditioning. Some interesting additional features include USB iPod interface, voice-activated navigation system, and satellite radio. The standard features offered in this edition are similar to the ones in the 2011 edition, which include power windows, cruise control, safety locks, and many more.
2012 Toyota Highlander Prices and Release Date
The 2012 Toyota Highlander will be available in showrooms in late autumn 2011 and is estimated to cost between $29,000 and $44,900, depending on the model. The V6, front-wheel drive model will cost around $30,000 and while the all-wheel drive model will cost around $32,000.
